The Japan Foundation, in its endeavour to provide a sociable avenue for presenting Asian societies, cultures and peoples’ ways of life in various perspectives through cartoon works, has been organising a series of Asian Cartoon Exhibitions since 1995.

The theme for this year is “Asian Youth Cultures” with 10 leading cartoonists from 10 Asian nations—Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, The Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam—having collectively produced 75 works depicting youth and culture in their respective nations for our entertainment as well as promoting awareness of Asian commonalities and diversity.

There are a handful of basic techniques which the cartoonist uses to create a symbolic world of make-believe. These basic cartoon strategies can be most easily seen with simple demonstrations available at the exhibition. Cartoonist Tazidi Yusof represents Malaysia in this exhibition and promises to make you smile with his cartoons as well as his demonstrations.
Unfortunately this 11th edition may be its last so show your support; maybe that will turn the tide.
