This premier event/convention will feature the biggest gathering of cartoons, comics & manga fans where they meet, socialize, meet creators, buy comics and related products, chat with local talents & portfolio reviews by experts for aspiring artists.

3 main highlights of KomiKON Malaysia 2007 are the:

       a) Marvel Talent Search

Believe it or not, it’s true! Marvel’s top talent scout, C.B. Cebulski will be in KL (his only Southeast Asian stop!) during his 2007 global search for 12 artists who will be awarded the opportunity to work at Marvel Comics. Guaranteed!

Possibly the largest worldwide comic book talent search ever undertaken & for the very fist time in Asia! And Malaysia!!!

Get your portfolio together & make your draw-for-Marvel-dream a reality at KomiKON Malaysia  2007. We’d be like proud parents if at least 1 Malaysian is chosen. Impossible?  Definitely not! Especially if we believe in ourselves and always remember… Malaysia Boleh!

b) Malaysian 24 Hour Comics Day 2007

The Malaysian 24 Hour Comics Challenge 2006: http://cedko.com/article.php?story=20061017130741843

The weekend of October 20 & 21, 2007 will see history being created in the Malaysian comics scene for it marks Malaysia’s entry into the international comics celebration that is the 24 Hour Comics Day.

In conjunction with the recent 50th Merdeka celebrations, 50 Malaysian cartoonists and comics artists will push themselves to the limit and take up the 24 Hour Comics challenge – creating a 24 page comics story in 24 straight hours! That’s months of work crammed into a single day!!!

Impossible? Well, come check out this incredible event for yourself, bring your sleeping bags, pillows and blankets and support these brave (and perhaps insane!) group of 50 cartoonists and comics artists.

c) Cartoonist Alley @ “Comics Crazy” & “Manga Mad” wings

Come and experience the largest gathering of mainly local cartoonists, comics and manga artists. Let them amaze you with their drawing talents and perhaps get a sketch or two from your favourite artist. Who knows? You might be the proud owner of a priceless piece of art in the near future!

KomiKON Malaysia 2007 is aimed at increasing the awareness of cartooning in general and contribute towards the growth of the Malaysian cartooning industry.

B.   Malaysian 24 Hour Comics Day

Malaysian 24 Hour Comics Day is the day when 24 Hour Comics Day is celebrated in Malaysia; in conjunction with the international 24 Hour Comics Day on 20 Oct 2007. At last year’s event, we had a full-house of 20 cartoonists. We’re hoping to target 50 cartoonists this year in conjunction with Malaysia’s 50th Merdeka celebrations!

What is 24 Hour Comics Day?

It’s an international celebration of creation of 24 hour comics. The first day was held in 2004, and the most recent was on 7 October 2006. This is a day when cartoonists all over the world take the challenge of trying to create a 24 page comic story in 24 straight hours. Some folks gather at the official event sites to work on comics side by side, while other folks work on their stories at home alone or in private gatherings. Many of the official event sites are open for the public to come and watch the effort.

What is the 24 hour comics challenge?

The 24 hour comics challenge is for

a cartoonist to completely create a…

24 page comics story
in
24 straight hours!

Who came up with the concept of 24 hour comic?

A cartoonist named Scott McCloud. Scott is the leading theoretician in the comics field, a position he achieved with the release of Understanding Comics, an analysis of the comics form in the comics form. To learn more about Scott and his insights, head on over to www.ScottMcCloud.com.

   …to showcase Malaysian talent

Being able to showcase their talent during a comics convention is probably one of the main highlights of a cartoonist’s career as it provides an excellent channel to market their works.

To celebrate Comics, Manga and Cartoons as an art form, the cartoonist Alley will feature a comics exhibition and a retail area where there will be comics related merchandise for sale.

- Speaking on a topics of their expertise

The  cartoonists will be showcasing their talent to the world (at least Malaysia lah!) by:

We believe there are a lot of closet cartoonists from the public (those who love drawing but are afraid to show their work in public)

Well, you’re in luck!
Bring along your artwork and get a review by professional cartoonists!
